Welcome To The 2011-2012 School Year Fifth Graders!

This 2011-2012 school year will be a fantastic one. Our class has many projects and endeavors that will be experienced. These will add to the dimensions of the curriculum at hand and add to the wealth of knowledge your student will gain this year. As we progress throughout the school year; adding experiences and connections with these expectations will make learning memorable and life-long.

Sometimes the questions are complicated and the answers are simple.

Looking forward to seeing and speaking to you about your child!

Reading Goal For The Second Trimester
The Reading Goal for this Trimester is as follows:
Students need to read a total of 12 books.
6 need to be fiction and 6 nonfiction.
One of the fiction needs to be a Mystery Genre.
Only one of the fiction can be a picture book.
Students need to average 85% on their quizzes taken after reading the book.
Students can read books that are not AR and have them count towards their goal.
There are 4 choices to evaluate the comprehension piece to have them count.
If a quiz is below 70%; the book does not count.
Books need to be within a range for them to count towards their goal. The students have been given their range.
Students can read any book at any level.

Green/Blue Folders
Your student will be bringing home a green/blue folder with them. The notes and graded assignments side (left as looking at it) needs to be emptied each night. I am noticing that important notes and classwork are still in the pockets. The right side will contain items that need to be saved or completed.
Home Access Center/Assessments
The Home Access Center allows you to check on your student's progress. If you are having issues still looking at this tool; please let me know and I can help you.

The assignemts are being evaluated each week on different concepts. This site will be updated each Tuesday and Thursday. Not all of the assignments that are completed and evaluated will be placed in this site. If it is a newer concept and needs further practice; certain ones will be placed in and counted towards their competencies and grade. All assignments are recorded in a grade book as well and this can be monitored in regards to the ones students are not completing. A print-out will be given to those at the end of each week if assignments are not current.

Quizzes will be each week on concepts as well as certain assignements will be due by the end of the day to be evaluated. This will help in regards to your student's accountability for understanding material and reviewing for assessments.

If you have any questions don't hesitate to contact me. Remember that the agenda is a great tool for your child to master using.
